Hey, I found a site that's hosting a quiz exactly like
yours! What do these clowns think they're doing?
To date
there are EXACTLY TWO authorized mirrors for this Quiz. They may be
found at Planet
AD'n'D and Dragons Must Be Here.
All other quizzes that use the same text, result images, or banners
as mine are maintained by thieves and unscrupulous usurpers. If you
find such a quiz, I'd really appreciate an email with its URL.
Thanks!
"I took the quiz but did not get a color. Did I do
something wrong?"
You've done nothing wrong. Try
entering your responses again, and retrying the button. If neither
of those works, try refreshing the entire page, or visiting my Quiz
again at another time. Be advised that America Online web browsers
do not like the coding for my Quiz. So if you're using AOL you might
not be able to get a color at all. Sorry about that.
What happened to the hit counters on your Quiz page?
This
is question does not have a happy answer. I'm sorry to say that
GeoCities only keeps site statistics for 23 months before purging
the data from their servers. As a result, on New Year's Day 2004 I
lost the hit data from the first month of this Quiz's life (Feb
2002). That means all my totals were suddenly thousands of hits
short of where they should have been. For example, the main page
magically lost over 40,000 hits. After some thought, I decided to
remove the counters because I had no way of recovering my hit data
from February 2002. I appologize for any disappointment this change
has caused, but I thought it better to report no hit data rather
than report tragically low numbers. I can tell you, however,
that my Quiz directory passed through 1.5 MILLION hits late in 2003,
and the Quiz page itself recently broke 500,000 unique visitors.
Why do Platinum and Chromatic dragons get mentioned in
your results pages but don't appear as results themselves?
To
answer that, here's a little explanation on what those two dragon
types are: THE Platinum dragon is the King of All Dragons. S/He is a
unique entity, and there is only one - ever. As you can imagine,
that means Platinums rather stick out a bit. Chromatic dragons are
not a color at all, they are a type. They're a really, really nasty
hybrid of all the evil elements of every true dragon color. You
don't wanna mess with one. Luckily for you, they are ridiculously
rare. Granted, there's more than one at a time, but they're awfully
hard to find. Anyway, as you can likely guess because these two
dragon types really aren't colors at all, and because they are so
rare, adding them to my Quiz would lead to either REALLY obvious
answers or ruining the purpose of my Quiz altogether. Hence, no
Platinum or Chromatic dragons.
Why won't you add new colors to your Quiz when I've
already asked you nicely to do so, possibly even twice? What about
Purple, Silver, Orange, or - oh, I don't know - Magenta!?
Hey,
if you REALLY want me to think about adding a new color to my Quiz,
please send me some sort of details about what makes that color
unique. If your case is strong enough I just might rebuild the Quiz
- as I did for Tan and Silver dragons. But if you just want any old
color in there and you won't give me a reason why, be prepared to
get shut down.
"Where are you getting your source material on
dragons?"
The source materials for my dragon
information come from my experience in Dungeons & Dragons and
AD&D, as well as a wonderful, wonderful website made by Illiana
the Gold Dragon. You can find a link to her page from my Quiz
page... It's at the bottom. Thank you, Illiana (if you read this)!
"Do you know any [other quiz] sites i can look
at?"
Well, probably the easiest thing to do is go to
a search site like Yahoo.com or Google.com and type in "online
quiz." But failing that, I can give you a few of the
bigger/better ones here. Of course, gotta do a little shameless
promoting first:
Quizilla, Home to a huge database of quizzes.
Those should tide you over for days to come.
"Can you please email me the code to your quiz?"
My
Quiz code is free for any of you to hack apart and rebuild so long
as you give me some credit for being your source. However, that does
not mean I am going to go around giving out copies to anyone
who comes knocking on my inbox. If you really want to make your own
quiz but can't figure out how to get to my code, I strongly
suggest that you use one of the many free quiz-hosting websites that
are out there.
"im a yellow dragon... my girlfriend is a green... do
we coexist?"
Hmm. There's just some emails I get
that make me stare at the screen for a minute. Then I smile and
write something intelligent, like this:
~> No quiz can provide
certainty on matters of the heart. You will work well together if
you respect and cherish one another, and if your karma wills it.
Best of luck.
"...I am a copper dragon and that suits me fine. But
I've gone through the quiz a bunch of times and have gotten the
following colors: ... My boyfriend told me about most of the dragons
and I used that to figure out all of them, but I just wanted to know
if that is all that there is possible."
I have to
admit that this email surprised me a little. If you want to know
about all the dragon colors, you don't have to try to get each
result through the Quiz. The bottom of every results page has a
listing of every possible dragon color. There are NO hidden colors.
As for "out-smarting" my Quiz and getting any color you
like at your own will, I guess that seems to defeat both the purpose
of my Quiz and its entertainment value. *shrug* But maybe that's
just me.
"In your test, blue is water, which I think that is
wrong. White is for water, blue is for thunder, copper is for
[acid]. Or at least [that's the way dragons are classified] in
Krynn. Maybe it's different in AD&D rules."
Krynn
uses a totally different classification system than any of the
following: Dungeons & Dragons, Anglo-Saxon mythology, or Gaelic
mythology. I chose the D&D scheme because it is most
approachable for the demographic groups that would tend to try an
online quiz like mine. Sorry I couldn't be totally accomodating, but
some conflicts were inevitable.
When did the Inner Dragon Online Quiz pass the 1,000,000
directory hits barrier?
My Quiz directory's counter hit
1,000,000 sometime between the night of 16Feb03 and the evening of
18Feb03. I can't be exactly sure because I wasn't watching the thing
every moment. My estimation of "17Feb03" as posted on the
version 4 quiz page is from looking briefly at the visitor stats
from the past day or two. If you're curious, the quiz PAGE itself
will turn over 1,000,000 hits sometime early in the year 2005. That
is, assuming the vistation statistics remain roughly on par with
those of the last month or two.
"I just wanted to let you know that I tried your
dragon quiz many times and I always get red dragon. ... I just
wanted to let you know about this. Its probably nothing [but I don't
see myself as a Red.]"
My Quiz has been extensively
beta-tested to ensure that it's HTML and Java encoding are working
properly. If you retake my Quiz over and over and keep turning up
the same answer, it's probably because your personality really does
match that particular color. If you honestly feel you're not that
color, then try going back to the Quiz page and picking responses
that are more true to who you are. And if you're still not satisfied
with your result just bear in mind that my Quiz is intended for
entertainment purposes only and not to dictate an absolute truth
about every visitor.
"[How about adding] a picture for which dragon you
are to your results pages?"
As of 10 August 2003,
your wish has come true! After months of prodding from Quiz-takers
and a whole bunch of hours fighting with picture editing software,
the images have arrived. Each dragon color now has its very own
results image. And with a little support from an Australian buddy of
mine, you can even display your image for the world to see. All you
have to do is copy the text in the box from any results page and
post it online. Your abbreviated result and its corresponding image
will be instantly displayed on your website or online diary.
So who is hosting all these results images? Obviously it's
not GeoCities.
Anyone wishing to express their personal
gratitude for the remote hosting and access of my results images
should direct their kind remarks to the LiveJournal user Bed.
Note: The images from the dmbh.org mirror are hosted by Dragons Must
Be Here.
What, if any, awards has the Inner Dragon Online Quiz
received?
My Quiz is a Dragons Must Be Here Award
Winner. The award was presented in July 2003. Its trophy image
appears at the bottom of this page.
